Monkland Cheese Dairy & Tea Room
Monkland Cheese Dairy is a working dairy producing local, artisan cheeses.

We are well signposted off the A44 on the Brecon road just outside Leominster and just a hundred yards off the main road. We have plenty of parking and lovely gardens

We have an award winning Tea Room for excellent coffee, proper leaf tea, homemade cakes and light lunches. In our farm shop we sell local products and other nice things to eat and drink. From our cheese counter we sell not only our cheese but lots of others as well but predominently British cheese.
If you are just passing along the A44 or on the Black and White trail we are a very pleasant place to stop for coffee.

You can also take a tour of the cheesemaking (see details) or learn to make cheese on one of our Cheese Experience Days.

We are situated in the beautiful, rural, county of Herefordshire.

Our Tea Rooms:
Open 10 – 5.30 Everyday Easter – Mid Oct

We have a very simple menu. Our classic offering is the Little Hereford Ploughmans Lunch which is a serving of our Little Hereford cheese, homebaked bread, welsh butter, sweet apple chutney and grape, celery, apple and walnut garnish. We obviously want you to enjoy our cheese while you are here so, cheese platter, blue cheese ploughman, cheese roll………We also serve our own soup, homemade cakes and during high season our cream tea with local, Bartonsham clotted cream and Carol makes some lovely strawberry jam.
Our aim is simple, local fare made well.

Our cafe seats 65 on two floors. There is lots of seating in the gardens.

If you are a group we can arrange something that is suitable for you. Just give us a call and see what we can do.

Experience Days:
Discover cheese production methods as used by an experienced Artisan Cheese maker.
Through a practical days cheesemaking learn about every stage of the production of hard and soft cheese at Monkland Cheese Dairy. Learn about the process from milk to maturation.

Your cheesemaker and guide for the day, Karen, has a wealth of experience as an Artisan producer for over 18 years and as a retailer of the finest British and continental cheeses for 25 years in her chain of Mousetrap Cheese Shops (1987-2012).
The day can be tailored to your needs to a certain extent. A group wanting a fun activity will probably want something slightly different to the total cheese enthusiast and we can try and fulfil your desires. The day usually starts at 8.45 with an introduction and the necessary paperwork. Then we get started. It is a very practical day so you are actually making the cheese. You will make your own small cheese which we will mature for you and then despatch to you. We provide a ploughmans lunch for you and afternoon tea and tea and coffee breaks throughout the day. If you want to go right through to the final turning that is at about 4PM. You can join in with the cleaning as well or skip that part and have a cup of coffee it is up to you.
For dates, prices and further details please email or telephone us here at the dairy.
